First Half Offense Vaults Rangers Over Strake Jesuit

2/16/2020 4:14:00 PM

Jesuit Dallas rugby secured a hard-fought, 47-24 win over Strake Jesuit in the team's home opener on Saturday in Postell Stadium. Shaking off a 10-5 setback to Lake Travis on Feb. 7, the Rangers pick up their second win of the season to begin a three-game home stand.

Junior Luke Aldinger led off the game with a try early in the first half as senior Mitchell Campbell responded to a Strake try with a go-ahead score to spot the Rangers a 14-7 lead. Senior Cal Turner scored off of a broken Strake lineout to give Jesuit a two-score lead before junior Sy Mendenhall was able to score to answer another Crusader try. Senior Ethan Lane dove in for a score to push the lead to 35-12 before junior Peter Melle added another score to give Jesuit a 42-12 lead after the halftime break.

Strake scored two unanswered tries in the second half, but junior Robert Triantos put the game away with a late try to stop the Crusader run. Triantos scored Jesuit's lone try of the game against Lake Travis on  Feb. 8 as the Rangers were unable to break through for a key, go-ahead try during a physical, tightly contested game between two of the top teams in the Rugby Texas North Division.

The Rangers will return to Postell Stadium on Saturday, Feb. 22 against Round Rock. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. as the Rangers aim to continue a three-game win streak over Rock Rugby that dates back to the 2017 season.
