Rangers Drop District Bouts to Prosper and No. 6 Allen

Jesuit Dallas will return to action following a pair of losses last week in University Interscholastic League (UIL) District 9-6A action. The Rangers fell to Prosper, 51-47, at Walsh Gym on Tuesday before suffering a 76-59 setback to state-ranked No. 6 Allen on Friday. Jesuit enters the week one game back of fourth-place Plano ahead of a Tuesday night showdown with the Wildcats at Walsh Gym.

vs. Prosper – Jan. 28, 2020

Jesuit junior Gavin Perryman scored 17 points and buried a trio of three-pointers, but Prosper came storming back from a five-point deficit in the fourth quarter to capture a 51-47 win over Jesuit on Tuesday evening. Senior Darryl Brown scored 14 points and added eight rebounds while junior Conor Moore secured eight boards to match Brown. Gavin led the team with three assists and four steals while junior Camden Roy tacked on two steals.

Junior Cal Linn hit a three-pointer to open the game as Jesuit jumped out to a 10-1 lead with 2:48 remaining in the first quarter. The Rangers kept a two-possession lead throughout the remainder of the quarter and entered the second with a five-point lead.

A jumper by Brown and three-pointer by junior Will Cordle returned Jesuit's lead to 10 points with 7:10 left before halftime, as the Rangers were able to keep the Eagles at bay and took a 13-point lead at the 1:27 mark. Prosper struggled offensively in the first half, shooting 7-of-29 (24.1 percent) from the field and 1-of-12 (8.3 percent) from three-point range. The Rangers took advantage of a 42.3 percent clip to take a 28-18 lead into halftime.

Prosper opened the second half on a 7-2 run to cut the Jesuit lead in half as the dormant Eagle offense hit 7-of-14 jumpers to head into the fourth quarter trailing, 38-33. The Eagles scored six unanswered points to open the fourth, taking a 39-38 lead with 6:43 remaining in regulation. Jesuit took the lead back with 4:04 left but were held without a field goal over a critical, three-minute stretch to head into the final two minutes tied, 43-43.

Brown converted a traditional three-point play to answer a Prosper three-pointer, but the Eagles would put the Rangers on the edge with a pair of converted free throws and forced two Jesuit turnovers over the final 20 seconds to clinch the win.

vs. Allen – Jan. 31, 2020

Cordle scored a season-best 10 points for the Rangers, but Jesuit fell victim to a hot-shooting Eagles squad that hit 60.4 percent of their shots en route to a 76-59 win over Jesuit on Friday. Brown scored 16 points with six rebounds, Linn secured a trio of three-pointers to finish the game with 11 points while Perryman and junior Shane Hatzmann scored eight and seven points, respectively.

Allen took a 16-11 lead after the end of the first quarter, but Jesuit scored 21 points in the second quarter to take a 22-19 lead into the halftime break. The Rangers hit eight of 10 shots in the second quarter, including a 3-of-4 conversation rate from outside the arc, as the Blue and Gold closed the half on an 18-12 run.

The Eagles outscored the Rangers, 25-16 in the third quarter, shooting 9-of-10 of the field and forcing four Jesuit turnovers to take a six-point lead heading into the fourth. A 14-4 run in the fourth quarter gave Allen a 16-point lead, as the Eagles put the Rangers away by hitting all eight attempted field goals in the final quarter while the Rangers went 4-of-12 from the field and 0-for-3 from three-point range.
