2/8/2020 12:59:00 PM

Jesuit to Start 2020 Season Against Frisco: A home-heavy schedule that features 11 contests at Postell Stadium awaits a veteran-laden Jesuit Dallas lacrosse program as the Rangers are set for a 2 p.m. season opener on Saturday against Frisco. Offensively, Jesuit returns three of 2019's five leading scorers, including junior Sam Teachout, a Johns Hopkins verbal commit who racked up 23 goals and 40 total points last year. Senior Tommy Hovivian, who will attend the United States Naval Academy next fall, scored 20 goals with 14 assists in 2019 and added 56 ground balls to help usher an offense that scored 10.8 goals per game last year. Providence commit Billy Metz returns after a 27-point season while sophomore McAllister Hobbs and junior Caiden Vlasimsky both return following respective eight and four-point seasons. Defensively, senior Sewanee commit Jack Selner and senior Franklin & Marshall signee Drew Martin return to usher a unit that forced 167 turnovers last year while securing over 28 ground balls per game. Selner caused a team-leading 39 turnovers last year and picked up 51 ground balls while Martin snagged 38 ground balls while forcing 22 turnovers. Junior face-off specialist Henry Suarez won 149 face-offs last year at a 61.3 percent clip while classmate Mason Chandler went 45-of-72  from the face-off "x". Additional returners include seniors Jack Carroll, John Pattee and Carter Walters, juniors Alex Chen, Blake Dickey, Tilt Fernandes, Tristian Hassell, Matthew Isbell, Connor Legg, Curran Rose and Rob Williamson alongside sophomores Tyler Gazzam and Charlie Metz. Junior transfer Daniel LePino joins the roster for his first varsity season alongside freshmen Cameron Martin and Michael Mathie.

Scouting Frisco: Finishing the 2019 season with a 6-8 record, Frisco made the playoffs last year but were ousted by the Rangers, 11-5, in the first round. Coach Diamonon will lead a team that includes eight seniors, nine juniors, eight sophomore and four juniors.

Up Next: Jesuit will return to Postell Stadium for three games over a seven-day span. The run begins on Feb. 15 as the Rangers welcome The Woodlands before a division clash with Prosper on Feb. 20. Jesuit will close the seven-day run with a battle against Austin Westlake on Feb. 22. The Rangers will open the year with seven consecutive home games before traveling to California for the annual Jesuit Invitational.
