Jesuit opened the 2020 season with a split on Thursday at the College Station Tournament. The Rangers closed the day with a 14-2 win over Strake Jesuit, plating eight runs in the first inning en route to their first win of the season. Jesuit dropped a 6-4 decision to Magnolia West, battling from a 4-0 deficit in the second inning to tie the game in the sixth before Magnolia scored two runs in the top of the seventh to derail the Ranger comeback.

Junior
Jordan Lawlar went 2-for-3 with four RBI against Strake, hitting his first home run of the season in the first inning before adding a double as the Rangers batted around the order in the opening frame. Jesuit exhibited strong patience at the plate against the Crusaders, forcing nine walks, five of which were recorded with the bases loaded. Junior

Gavin Perryman each recorded a hit. Perryman secured his first win of the season on the mound, throwing a complete game with eight strikeouts.

Matthew Cox threw three innings of scoreless relief. West scored three runs in the first inning before adding its fourth run in the top of the second.

Jesuit's first run of the game came with two outs in the third as Mack laced a double to center, scoring Boyle. In the fourth, back-to-back walks to Perryman and Jones were followed by a sacrifice bunt from senior
Tyson Pointer to put two runners in scoring position. Ramirez drove in a run on a groundout to cut the Magnolia West lead in half. A single through the left side by Lazzara in the bottom of the fifth brought the Rangers to within one before Boyle ripped a double down the left field line with two outs in the sixth to tie the game.

In the nightcap, Chavez opened the scoring by crossing the plate on a wild pitch. Lawlar hit a deep ball to left field that cleared the fence to spot Jesuit a 3-0 lead. A run-scoring single by Jones scored senior
Jake Koger, Perryman scored on a wild pitch and Chavez forced a bases loaded walk to plate Jones. A sacrifice fly by Boyle brought Pointer home before Lawlar capped the inning with a double down the left field line to score Ramirez.

Strake scored a run in the top o f the second before Jesuit scored six more runs in the bottom of the frame. Bases-loaded walks to Ramirez, Chavez, Lawlar, Mack, Lazzara and Perryman gave the Rangers a commanding, 14-1 lead. Strake scored another run in the third, but Jesuit was able to clinch the run-rule victory by shutting out the Crusaders in the fourth and fifth.

Jesuit will continue the season on Friday, as Jesuit will compete in the second day of the College Station Tournament. The Rangers will play Temple at 11 a.m. before facing off against Lake Creek at 1:30 p.m. Both games will take place at Rudder H.S.
