The Jesuit Dallas baseball team opened the 2020 Jesuit Dallas Baseball Classic with a Thursday split at Wright Field. The Rangers dropped a 6-4 decision to Plano East to open the tournament before defeating Richardson, 4-2, in the nightcap.

Junior
JJ Luna picked up his first varsity win, throwing three shutout innings and striking out three batters while only allowing two hits. Senior
Alek Houillion struck out three batters in his second start of the season. Junior
Nick Lazzara went 2-for-2 with a double while senior
Braxton Boyle led the team with two RBI. Senior
Tanner Jones and junior
Jordan Lawlar added one RBI apiece.

Richardson took a 2-0 lead into the third before Lawlar plated sophomore
Cash Riley with a sac fly to Center to get the Rangers on the board. An infield single by Jones in the bottom of the fifth scored senior
Tyson Pointer to tie the game before a single to left by Boyle broke the game open, driving home Lawlar and Riley to give Jesuit a two-run lead.

Luna took over in the third and retired the first five batters he faced. Richardson put two runners on with two outs in the sixth, but Lawlar snagged a line drive to start a game-ending, 4-6 double play to give the Rangers the win.

Jesuit was held to five hits against Plano East as Lawlar, Boyle and junior
Gavin Perryman each drove in runs. Lawlar went 2-for-3 as seniors
JT Ennen,
Jake Koger and
Jalon Mack recorded one hit each. Junior
Clayton Jackson threw four innings and struck out six in his second start of the season before junior
George Austin entered in the fifth, throwing two innings of shutout work.

Plano East jumped on the Rangers for six runs over the first two innings, but Jesuit slowly began to rally by scoring one run in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth. A single to left by Lawlar got Jesuit on the board in the third before Perryman brought Boyle home with a sac fly in the fourth. Another sac fly was recorded by Boyle in the fifth before Koger scored on an error by the Panther catcher. However, Jesuit was unable to get the two runs needed for the tie across the plate before the two-hour time limit elapsed.

The Rangers will continue the tournament with two games on Friday. The Rangers will first battle Forney at 1:30 p.m. before taking on Princeton at 6:30 p.m.
