Explosive First Half Vaults Rangers Over Tigers

Jesuit Dallas outscored Irving H.S. by 26 points in the first half and held the Tigers to 11 points down the stretch for a 72-27 win on Wednesday at Walsh Gym. Marking the third time this season that the Rangers have held an opponent to 35 or fewer points, the team's defensive intensity won the day as the Rangers forced 20 turnovers while holding Irving to a 25.8 percent clip from the floor.

Senior Gavin Perryman scored a team-leading 15 points while classmate Conor Moore added 11 points, and tied sophomore Owen Berry by grabbing a team-leading five rebounds. Senior Cal Linn and junior Matthew McKinzie scored eight points apiece, Berry tacked on seven and the tandem of junior Grant Kostos and senior Xavier Reichenstein scored six points each.

Reichenstein finished the day 2-of-4 from three-point range, the first three-pointers of his varsity career, while tacking on four rebounds, two steals, an assist and a block. Jesuit shot 57.1 percent in the first half, a run that included seven three pointers, and finished the game with 27 points off of Irving turnovers. The Rangers secured a 38-22 rebounding advantage while Irving went 1-of-8 from three-point range.

Jesuit will conclude another three-game week with a road battle against J.J. Pearce on Friday. The Rangers will aim to avenge a loss to the Mustangs in late December and continue to gain momentum heading into the final six games of the regular season. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday at J.J. Pearce H.S.
