Soccer Starts District Play With 3-1 Win Over Pearce

Shaking off an early Mustang tally, Jesuit Dallas finished Tuesday's game with three unanswered goals to pick up a 3-1 victory over JJ Pearce in the team's district opener at Postell Stadium. The Rangers, who are currently on a four-game unbeaten streak, will continue the district slate on Friday against Lake Highlands.

Seniors Cullen Scott, Santiago Day and Kyle Visintainer scored for Jesuit as sophomore Cole Hines picked up another strong performance in goal with seven saves on the day. Senior Spence Gilker assisted on all three Jesuit goals while fellow seniors Ryan Shea and Zach Poen picked up one assist each. After Pearce's Ford Allen scored on a through ball that got past the Ranger defense in the 20th minute, Scott headed home a corner kick from Gilker in the 25th minute for the equalizer. Day added a goal off of feeds from Shea and Gilker to put the Rangers ahead, 2-1, in the 32nd minute on his first goal of the year.

In the second half, Jesuit's defense withstood six shots, five free kicks and three corner kicks from Pearce, and added an insurance goal in the 68th minute off of Visintainer's third tally of the season.

Jesuit will continue the district season with back-to-back road games, taking on Lake Highlands on Jan. 29 at Wildcat-Ram Stadium before traveling to Irving to battle the MacArthur Cardinals on Feb. 2. The Rangers will return to Postell Stadium on Friday, Feb. 5 against Irving Nimitz.
