Lake Highlands Scores Late to Forge Tie Against Rangers

Spence Gilker and Alec Gomez scored for the Rangers, but Lake Highlands scored two goals in the second half to forge a 2-2 tie with Jesuit on Friday at Wildcat-Ram Stadium. Jesuit's offense took 11 shots in the first half, including six attempts on goal, but the Wildcat defense was able to limit the damage in the second half.

The Rangers outshot the Wildcats, 18-11, as five saves from sophomore Cole Hines helped the Rangers fend off the second half push the Wildcats and allow the Blue and Gold to escape Wildcat-Ram Stadium unbeaten in district through two games. Gilker scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season in the 10th minute off of assists from junior Andrew Reutinger and senior Ryan Shea as Reutinger lofted a cross towards a waiting Gilker for the game-opening score.

In the 16th minute, Jesuit drew a foul in the box that resulted in a penalty kick for the Rangers. Gomez took the penalty for the Rangers and slotted the shot in the bottom left corner of the net for the 2-0 lead at halftime. Lake Highlands scored goals in the 55th and 69th minute to secure the tie.

The Rangers will return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 2 for their first meeting of the season against MacArthur. Jesuit will return to Postell Stadium on Friday, Feb. 5, when the Blue and Gold will welcome Irving Nimitz for a 7:15 p.m. kick-off.
