Rangers Hold Home Court Against Nimitz

After allowing 12 points in the first quarter, the Jesuit Dallas defense held Nimitz to under 10 points in the second, third and fourth quarters en route to a 67-34 win over the Vikings on Friday at Walsh Gym. Jesuit moves to 3-1 in District 7-6A with the win ahead of a huge matchup against state-ranked No. 5 Richardson on Saturday.
 
Senior Gavin Perryman shot 6-of-12 on the night, finishing the game with a team-leading 16 points. Junior Ben Johnson added eight points while senior Conor Moore picked up seven points with five rebounds. Junior Grant Kostos led the team with six rebounds and added seven points while junior Dylan Gibbons scored six points in his varsity debut. Senior Cal Linn scored six points, junior Sky Tschurr picked up five points, sophomore Owen Berry scored four, junior Will Mansour buried his first three-pointer of the season and junior Matthew McKinzie added three points to the team effort.
 
Linn and Berry picked up three assists each, while Berry added five rebounds. Jesuit shot 57.8 percent from the floor and 50 percent (10-of-20) from three-point range, securing 27 rebounds compared to 17 by the Vikings. Jesuit's defense held Nimitz to 40 percent from the field and forced 15 Viking turnovers, which turned into 16 points. The Rangers scored 26 points in the paint and picked up 10 second chance points on 10 offensive boards.
 
The Rangers will next battle an Eagles squad that is 9-1 on the year and 2-0 in district play following a 71-37 win over Nimitz on Dec. 30 and a 65-39 triumph over Irving H.S. on Jan. 2. The Eagles are led by junior guards Cason Wallace and Rylan Griffin, a pair of players that are ranked in the top 50 of 2022 prospects by 247Sports. Wallace is currently a five-star recruit ranked second in the state and 18th in the country while Griffin is ranked fifth in the state and 48th in the nation.
