Jesuit Dominates Lynch For Season-Opening Win

The Rangers dominated Bishop Lynch to start the 2021-22 season, extending their winning streak to 21 meets with a 129-34 win over the Friars on Saturday at the Kaycee Pool. Jesuit won all 11 events contested at the event, beginning another jam-packed season with a wire-to-wire performance.
 
Jesuit's relay teams provided a spark to the Ranger lineup, as the 200 medley relay team, consisting of senior James Savarese, sophomore William Savarese, senior Alex Hung and junior Leo Pelaez hit the wall in 1:44.71 to win the event. Freshman Flyn Hughes, senior Samuel Steffler, senior Blake Butz and senior Charles Henderson recorded a 1:36.94 to win the 200 free relay before the Savarese brothers joined Pelaez and Hung for a victorious, 3:21.06 in the 400 free relay.
 
James Savarese and William Savarese won two races apiece. James Savarese hit the wall in 1:48.92 to win the 200 free, later clocking a 1:00.50 to score a victory in the 100 back. William Savarese earned his first win of the year with a 48.84 in the 100 free, then tacked on a 1:00.47 in the 100 breast for his second first-place finish of the afternoon.
 
Additional event leaders included freshman Vincent Leek, who won the first 200 I.M. of his varsity career with a 2:12.93 and defeated the field by nearly 16 seconds. Butz raced to a 23.85 to win the 50 free, Hung added a 57.96 to win the 100 fly and Pelaez swam a 5:01.19 to secure the victory in the 500 free.
 
The early season will continue on Saturday, Oct. 9 when the Rangers host the Ranger Relays at Garland ISD Natatorium. The meet is scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m.
