Hannan Defeats Jesuit on Half-Court Buzzer Beater

Senior Ben Johnson scored 18 points for the Rangers, but Jesuit Dallas dropped a 45-42 decision to Archbishop Hannan (La.) on a half-court buzzer beater on Friday night in Covington, Louisiana.

Johnson finished the evening with 18 points and nine rebounds, tacking on two steals. Senior Tai Kryger hit a pair of three-pointers, closing out the contest with eight points while senior Grant Kostos recorded seven rebounds with two points. Senior Dylan Gibbons picked up four points, three assists and two steals, senior Sky Tschurr scored five points, junior Owen Berry added three points and senior Ryan McCormick finished out the score sheet with two points and four rebounds.

Jesuit Dallas out-rebounded Hannan, 31-24, scoring 12 points in the paint and nine points off of 16 Hannan turnovers. The Rangers led by 10 with 2:20 remaining in the third quarter, but Hannan used an 11-0 run to take the lead. Johnson hit two key three-pointers to keep the Rangers ahead, and Tschurr converted two free throws with 14 seconds remaining in regulation to put the Rangers up by three. However, Hannan hit a game-tying three with four seconds left, then stole the in bound pass and hit a half-court shot at the buzzer for the win.

The Rangers will wrap their trip on Saturday, when the Blue and Gold will trave to Jesuit New Orleans for a 12 p.m. showdown.
