In a highly anticipated matchup that was delayed 10 days due to last week's winter storm, Jesuit took sole possession of first place in District 7-6A with a 3-1 win over previously unbeaten Irving on Monday at Postell Stadium. The Rangers, who remain unbeaten in district and are a one-loss team after 13 games, rode the momentum of two first half goals before withstanding a late offensive flurry from the Tigers for the momentous win.

Senior
Ryan Shea started the scoring with his 10th goal of the season in the 18th minute. Taking a shot off of assists by senior
Spence Gilker and sophomore
Erwin Ordaz, Shea took a rip from the top of the box that snuck into the far post to give the Blue and Gold the early lead.
Â
In the 28th minute, junior
Arnold Perez-Valenzuela launched a corner kick that found senior
Alec Gomez in the box. Gomez kicked the ball into the net for the Rangers' second goal of the half. Jesuit took the 2-0 lead into halftime with a dominant first half, taking 15 shots, earning three corner kicks and drawing five free kicks to take control of the matchup at the break.

The second half saw Irving ramp up the pressure, taking 11 shots and six shots on goal. Sophomore
Cole Hines came up big, making five saves in net while senior
Cullen Scott notched his 12th goal of the season in the 51st minute, heading home a corner kick from senior
Benton Bacile to add a critical insurance goal. Irving would score in the 74th minute off of a penalty kick, but the Rangers held firm in the second half to lock up the win.
Jesuit Dallas will face a quick turnaround, as the Rangers will welcome Lake Highlands to Postell Stadium on Tuesday, Feb. 23 for a 7 p.m. kick-off. The Rangers will close a three-game homestand with a Friday showdown against MacArthur.
