The Jesuit Dallas baseball season got off to an eye-opening start on Thursday, as the Rangers racked up 11 runs on Azle en route to a 14-1, five-inning win before closing out the sweep with a 7-1 victory over Burleson on at Azle H.S.

The Rangers were led by junior
David Long, who impressed in his varsity debut by batting 2-for-3 with three RBI. Senior
Jordan Lawlar was immensely effective in the lead-off spot, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored. Junior
Myles Tucker also got his Ranger varsity career off to a good start with two hits, two RBI and a double.

Jesuit wasted little time getting on the scoreboard against Azle, as the Rangers nearly batted around twice and scored 11 runs on nine hits and an error, all of which came with two outs in the inning. Senior
Connor Chavez started the rally with a bunt down the left field line, followed by a single to center by junior
Tommy Delaney, which also served as his first varsity hit. Senior
Drew Messick ripped a single to right to score Jesuit's first run of the season, followed by a bases loaded walk forced by senior
Gardner Lawrence that plated Delaney for a 2-0 lead.

Back-to-back singles by juniors
David Long and
Cash Riley increased the lead to four before Lawrence came home on a passed ball for a five-run lead. Senior
Jordan Lawlar launched a two-run double to right center to add two more runs onto the board and later scored on a single by junior
Myles Tucker, who would score later on in the inning following an Azle error. The final run of the first came off the bat of senior
Nick Lazzara, who drove Delaney home with a single to right.

Junior
Jake Storey took the ball in the bottom of the first with the convincing lead but provided no quarter over his five-inning complete game, striking out seven batters and only allowing one run on two hits. Tucker added his second RBI of the game on his first double of the season, scoring Lawlar to increase the lead to 12 before Long launched a two-run double to left center that scored Messick and junior
Walker Houdek, giving the junior a team-high three RBI.

Against Burleson, junior
David Day pushed Jesuit to the victory in the nightcap, throwing six strong innings of work and striking out five batters. The Rangers were held scoreless over the first two innings but broke through in the third on a single to right by Chavez that drove Riley home for an early 1-0 lead. Burleson allowed the Rangers to score four runs on self-inflicted errors, as runs scored in the third and fifth innings on balks while two additional runs scored on passed balls.

Long added his fourth RBI of the day on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning, and Lawlar picked up his third double of the day in the sixth, scoring Riley for Jesuit's seventh run of the game.

Jesuit Dallas will head into the second day of the tournament on Feb. 26, when the Rangers will travel to Weatherford, Texas for back-to-back contests. Jesuit will take on the hosting Kangaroos at 11 a.m. before battling Abilene at 1:45 p.m.
