Ranger Rugby Remains Undefeated With Wins Over Plano, Lake Travis

3/13/2021 8:22:00 AM

Jesuit Dallas rugby remained unbeaten on the year as the top-ranked high school team in the nation according to Goff Rugby Report secured two more convincing victories over the past two weeks. The Rangers scored their highest point total since 2019 in a 61-5 win over Plano Rugby Club before outlasting Lake Travis, 36-17.

Seniors Will Delaney, Dimitri Papanicolau and Sy Mendenhall scored two tries apiece against Plano, while Papanicolau was the team's top scorer with six additional conversions. Seniors Jacob Wooten and Jack Judson tacked on tries of their own, as did junior Andrew Charlton, who scored in his first game of the season. Senior Freddie Bowhill and junior Benoni Mesfin each launched a successful conversion to cap the scoring for the Rangers in a dominant, wire-to-wire performance.

Against Lake Travis, senior Alex Triantos and junior Charlie Freeman notched two tries each while senior Marshall Neri and junior Brennan Graham each secured tries of their own. Piotrowski earned a trio of conversions as Jesuit survived its toughest test of the season, withstanding not only its first road game of the year but an immensely physical Cavaliers squad that made the Blue and Gold fight for every yard.

Jesuit will return to action on Friday, March 26, when the Rangers will face off against Allen for the second time this season. In their season opener, Jesuit defeated Allen, 31-14, and will look to remain undefeated against the Eagles. Kickoff time is scheduled for 7 p.m. from Allen, Texas.
