Jesuit Dallas rugby withstood a substantial rain delay and an inspired comeback by Strake Jesuit, capturing the third state title in program history with a 36-28 win in the Rugby Texas Single School State Championship game on Saturday in Houston, Texas. The historic win provides Jesuit with the third state title in team history and the first championship for the program in 11 years.

Jesuit shook off an early try from Strake in the opening moments as senior
Jack Judson broke through for the Rangers' first try of the game, which tied the game, 7-7 after a conversion by senior
Dimitri Papanicolau. Senior
Aidan Piotrowski gave Jesuit its first lead of the game, 12-5, before Judson found senior
Sy Mendenhall for an electric try in the open field to give the Rangers a 19-7 lead at halftime.
Â
In the second half, Mendenhall scored his second try of the game to answer Strake's second score of the afternoon to keep the Rangers ahead by two possessions. Sophomore
Neil Lancaster found paydirt after an hour-long lightning delay, and junior
Charlie Freeman put Jesuit up by 22 points late in the second half. The Crusaders scored a pair of late tries, but the Rangers were able to halt the Strake offense over the waning moments of the game to clinch the victory.

The Rangers remain unbeaten on the year following the win and will await their opponent for next weekend's Sebastian Cup Championships, which will take place on in New Orleans, Louisiana.
