Hockey Drops Overtime Bout to McKinney After Late Equalizer

Senior Charlie Cohen lit the lamp with 3:48 remaining in regulation, sending Thursday's regular season showdown with McKinney into overtime. Jesuit dropped a 3-2 decision to McKinney, but secured an all-important point as they attempt to push their way into the playoff picture as the home stretch of the regular season began at the StarCenter in McKinney.

Jesuit goals were scored by Cohen and Gage Gutierrez, with Travis Hogan and Noah Pinkall recording assists. After a scoreless first period, McKinney was first on the scoreboard with a tally midway through the second, a goal that was answered by Gutierrez with 1:52 remaining in the period. Cohen's late tally pushed the two teams into overtime, where McKinney was able to avoid a shootout by scoring with 51 seconds on the clock in the extra session.

The Rangers will next head into the first game of the Texas Amateur Hockey Association (TAHA) Division I Pure State Championship Tournament on Tuesday, Jan. 18 against Allen. This year, three teams are eligible for the title as Allen, Jesuit Dallas and Strake Jesuit will battle it out in a two-game round robin, with the winners advancing to the state title game on Jan. 23 at 11:30 a.m.

Puck drop for Tuesday's game is set for 6:15 p.m. at the Comerica Center in Frisco, with Jesuit competing in a AT&T Metroplex League day 48 hours later at 7:15 p.m. on Jan. 20 against Flower Mound.
