Charlie Cohen broke through with a power play goal with 3:48 remaining in the second period, opening the door for the Rangers to secure a 4-0 win over Allen in the first game of the Texas Amateur Hockey Association (TAHA) Division I Pure State Championship tournament on Tuesday at the Comerica Center in Plano. The Rangers will next compete against Strake Jesuit on Saturday, Jan. 22 for a chance to clinch a berth in the state championship game on Jan. 23.

Danny Myung scored a key goal with 24 seconds remaining in the second to send Jesuit into the second intermission with a 2-0 lead. Freshman Connor Parro scored the team's final goal late in the third, another empty net goal with 51 seconds remaining in the contest to give Jesuit the four-goal advantage.
The second game of the three-game round robin will take place on Friday, Jan. 21 when Strake Jesuit and Allen will square off at 8:30 p.m. at the StarCenter in Valley Ranch. The results of Friday and Saturday's games will determine who plays in the one game state championship show down at 11:30 p.m. at the Valley Ranch StarCenter. Puck drop between Jesuit and Strake is set for 3:15 p.m. on Saturday, a game that will also take place at Valley Ranch.
