Jesuit Pulls Away from Arlington to Punch Ticket to UIL Area Round

The Ranger scored 38 unanswered points to close out a 41-14 win over Arlington on Friday in the UIL Region I-6A Division II Bi-District Round at Ranger Stadium. Anchored by a determined performance from the Jesuit offense and some stout second half defense, Jesuit advanced to the area round for the ninth time since 2012.

Senior Charlie Schmidt scored four rushing touchdowns, securing a career-high 158 yards on the ground on 24 carries. Schmidt additionally completed 8-of-17 passes for 176 yards, including a 52-yard touchdown strike to sophomore Jaeger Krauss. Seniors Cameron Martin and Reed Pfaffenberger added 31 and 28 yards, respectively, helping push Jesuit to 240 total yards on the ground. Martin would match Krauss for the team lead in receiving yards with 52 of his own, while senior Luke Fawcett snagged two catches for 39 yards.

Jesuit's defense made massive plays in the second half, the biggest of which came during the transition from the third to fourth quarter. Facing second and goal from the two-yard line, the Rangers kept the Colts out of the end zone on three consecutive plays, forcing one of three turnovers on downs during the second half.

Senior Roark Holman clinched the game with a late fourth quarter interception, junior Greyson Wombacher added a team-high eight tackles, senior Luke Buckner picked up seven stops and the duo of seniors William Sahadevan, Grant Peters and junior Chris Simington each picked up six tackles. Sophomore Noah McGough converted a pair of field goals, hitting from 28 and 40 yards while adding four touchbacks on eight kick-off attempts.

The Rangers will now move on to face McKinney in the UIL Area Round. McKinney upended Coppell, 44-26 in its first playoff appearance since 2019. Kick-off for Jesuit and McKinney is set for 7 p.m. at Children's Health Stadium in Prosper, Texas.
