Houston Bound! Jesuit Dallas Earns Trip to Varsity Cup Finals With Win Over St. Thomas

4/15/2023 10:12:00 AM

Junior Jordan Mason scored a trio of first half tries, helping Jesuit Dallas upend St. Thomas, 39-17, to earn its way to the Rugby Texas Varsity Cup Championship, set for Saturday, April 22 in Houston, Texas.

Mason started the scoring for the Rangers before junior Mitch Sullivan used a nifty side-step to fight his way into the try area and spot the Blue and Gold a 10-point lead. Mason's second try build Jesuit's lead to 15 before a breakaway run at the end of the first half, complimented by a converted try from junior Dylan Wachsman, sent the Rangers into the break with a 22-0 advantage.

Junior Luke Lamont answered back on a St. Thomas try to open the second half, keeping the Jesuit lead at 20 before senior Neil Lancaster bulldozed his way to paydirt to increase the Ranger lead to 25 points. Junior Chase Brown scored Jesuit's final try of the game, as a Sullivan converted brought the Rangers to their final total.

Jesuit Dallas will meet Strake Jesuit in the Rugby Texas Varsity Cup Finals after the Crusaders defeated Lake Travis, 66-17, on Thursday evening. Next Saturday's matchup will mark the second time that the two teams have met this year, as Strake handed Jesuit its lone loss of the year, 31-0, on Mar. 24 in Houston.
