McGough Launches Game-Winner, Jesuit Outlasts Pearce for District-Opening Win

Junior Noah McGough cleared the uprights from 27 yards out with four seconds left in the fourth quarter, lifting Jesuit Dallas to a 41-39 win over Pearce in both team's district openers on Sept. 7. The Rangers secured a win in their district opener for the sixth consecutive year, withstanding a strong comeback attempt from Pearce to improve to 2-1 on the season.

Fresh off of his Dallas Morning News Offensive Player of the Week award last week against Rockwall, junior quarterback Charlie Peters racked up 329 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Senior Cooper Cutler secured his second straight 100-yard game, catching eight passes for 135 yards and a touchdown, while junior Zane Williams added to his area-leading scoring total with a pair of rushing touchdowns, carrying the ball 11 times for 46 yards. Peters would add a rushing touchdown of his own, while senior wide receiver Quentin Williams finished the bout with six receptions for 75 yards and a touchdown.

Quentin Williiams would catch four passes during the game-winning drive, setting the stage for McGough's game-winner. The junior kicker converted successful field goal attempts from 27 and 22 yards, and improved to 3-for-3 this year in field goal attempts.

Senior Grayson Wombacher led the defense with 14 tackles on the night, including four behind the line of scrimmage and 2.5 sacks. Seniors Entonyo Jones, Jr. and Tristen Bird made 13 tackles apiece, as Bird forced a fumble that was recovered by fellow senior Logan Thompson deep in Pearce territory for a key fourth quarter touchdown. Thompson would finish with 10 tackles, followed by eight stops from senior Chris Simington, seven tackles by senior Connor Raney, and six tackles apiece from senior Bobby Musso and junior Robert Prager.

Jesuit will host Lake Highlands on Friday, Sept. 15 in a matchup that will feature two of the area's top 10 offenses. The Wildcats defeated Highland Park, 51-41, for its first win over the Scots since 1989. Kickoff is set for Ranger Stadium at 7 p.m. on Sept. 15.
