Jesuit Dallas water polo seniors
Jackson Powell and
Luke Wiley were named to the Texas High School Coaches' Association (THSCA) Academic All-State team, announced by the organization on Tuesday.
Â
Powell was named to the THSCA Academic All-State Elite Team, which is the highest honor that a student-athlete can receive from the organization. Wiley secured academic all-state first team plaudits.
Â
The THSCA Academic All-State Teams recognizes senior high school athletes, trainers and managers for their commitment and dedication to perform with the highest of excellence academically and on the field or court. When reviewing the nominations, the THSCA considers each students' GPA, class rank, SAT and/or ACT score. The students receive points based on each criteria. The total number of points they receive determines which team they are placed on. The classification of the school is not a factor, and there's not a limit on how many players can make a team.Â
Â
To be nominated for Academic All-State, a student must be a senior athlete, student trainer or manager in good standing with the team, have good moral character and have above a 92 overall grade point average. The best team a player can make is the Elite Team which requires a near perfect score in all categories. After Elite comes the following teams: first team, second team and honorable mention.
