Jesuit Dallas secured the program's first regional championship since 2012, dominating to secure the Region II-6A crown on Saturday at the LISD Westside Natatorium in Lewisville.
The Rangers secured four automatic qualifiers, led by 100 fly regional champion
Luke Lary, who not only secured the championship but broke a school record twice with a 50.39 in the preliminaries before posting a 50.09 in the finals. Lary bested the previous mark of 50.75, recorded by Greg Hoffman in 2010, and bested the field by over one second.
Junior
Sam Kennington earned his first individual state berth, finishing second in the 50 free with a 21:24. Kennington out-touched Plano's Dylan Swannakinthorn by 0.04 seconds for the region's second automatic berth to state, entering the race as the top seed following prelims. Sophomore
Jonah Ruhl punched his ticket to Austin with a second place finish in the 100 freestyle, hitting the wall in 46.57 during finals following a 47.19 in prelims.
The Rangers finished the meet with a dominant performance in the 400 freestyle relay, winning the event with a 3:07.88 in finals. The quartet of Lary, Kennington, junior
Sebastian Suwanda and
Jonah Ruhl won by 1.22 seconds over Flower Mound Marcus.
Jesuit's diving contingent got the Rangers rolling with a strong performance on Thursday. Freshman
Koby Broad finished sixth with a score of 205.15. The freshman secured 14 of his points on a reverse somersault and improved his 1 ½ somersault dive by two points from district to regionals. Fellow freshman Kobus Brewton placed 10th with a total score of 169.75, including a reverse somersault that scored 13.5. The performance is another history-making outing for the Rangers' diving team as it marks the first time that two divers have posted top-10 finishes at regionals.
Jesuit Dallas will await the state call-ups to determine whether several additional eyebrow-raising performances will qualify for state. Sophomore
Drew Shippey finished third in the 100 fly with a 51.89, and the Rangers' 200 free relay team, consisting of
Jonah Ruhl, Lary, junior
Jackson Addison-Jordan and Kennington, earned the bronze medal with a 1:25.33. In the 200 individual medley,
Jonah Ruhl secured a bronze medal with a 1:52.06 and may earn the call-up to Austin.

Drew Shippey combined for a 1:39.66 total relay time, placing fifth. Suwanda was Jesuit's top finisher in the 200 free (1:45.96) and 500 free (4:50.86), finishing fifth and seventh, respectively.
Lary placed fourth in the 50 free (21.40), Kennington tacked on a fifth-place finish in the 100 free (47.72), and Wilton scored for the Rangers in the 500 free (4:55.08). Sophomore
John McCosker scored twice for the Rangers, finishing 14th in the 200 (1:51.84) and 500 free (5:04.78) while Addison-Jordan added to Jesuit's point total with by placing 10th in the 100 free (49.30) and 12th in the 50 free (22.48).
Jesuit Dallas finished the meet with 334 points, capturing the regional championship by 71 points over Flower Mound. Ranger head coach
Doug Moyse was named Coach of the Meet following the meet. The Rangers will now advance to compete at the UIL 5A & 6A State Championships on Feb. 21-22 at the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin. Swimming prelims will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, February 21 and finals are scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 22.
