DALLAS - The Jesuit Dallas swimming & diving team won the Ranger Relays for the first time since 2016 on Saturday at the David A. Segal Family Aquatic Center. It was the first time the event had been held on campus and saw a standing room-only crowd throughout the meet.
The Rangers were scored second in the boys standings and overall combined scores (with Ursuline Academy) but took home the title with a dominant performance in the 'Shootout' portion of the event - a 50 yard freestyle sprint that alternates boys and girl teammates in an elimination-style format.
This was Jesuit's fourth Ranger Relays title and first since 2016. The Rangers won in 2013, 2015 and 2016.
Jesuit earned the first gold of the day in the 200 Medley Relay when the team of
Jonah Ruhl,
Grant Wilton,
Luke Lary and
Sebastian Suwanda hit the wall first, less than a second ahead of Plano Senior and Southlake Carroll.
The Rangers won the 200 Free Relay in dramatic fashion out-touching Southlake Carroll by seven hundredths of a second when senior Lary swam a 21.61 for the fastest 50 free of the race as he anchored the group that included
Sam Kennington, Suwanda and
Jackson Addison-Jordan.
Jesuit also scored 34 points in runner-up performances in the 200 Butterfly and 400 Medley Relays.
Southlake Carroll's green squad won the scoring portion of the meet with 292 points, just ahead of Jesuit's blue team with 268. Allen was third with 236 points and won the team combined total with 488 points. The Jesuit-Ursuline combo was second with 476 points. The Bishop Lynch girls won the girls title with 266 points.
Jesuit will be back in action on Tuesday, October. 14 with a meet at Allen and Lovejoy at the Don Rodenbaugh Natatorium.
