Harlan Beucler punched his ticket to the University Interscholastic League (UIL) 6A State Championship by winning the 200 meter dash at the 2025 UIL Region I-6A Track & Field Championships, held on Friday, April 18 and Saturday, April 19 in Arlington, Texas.
Beucler secured his trip to Austin with a 20.90 in the championship heat of the 200 meter dash, edging Hebron's Cole Coppedge by 0.03 seconds. The regional championship ensures that Jesuit Dallas will be represented at the state for the third consecutive year and will see Beucler compete as an individual for the first time at state after competing as part of the 4x400 relay at state in 2024.
Entering the meet as one of the favorites to win the race and advance to state, Beucler lived up to his billing by securing the top seed in finals with a victorious 21.04 in the preliminary heat despite battling through a head wind of 5.4 miles per hour. The championship final field consisted of Beucler, Raymond White (McKinney), Andrew Casagrande (J.J. Pearce), Matthew Maldima (Coppell), Cole Coppedge (Hebron), Jaybrion Jones (Odessa) and Caden Ellis (Midland Legacy).
The state qualifying-performance adds another accomplishment to a stellar season for the junior. Beucler began the season by setting the indoor 200 meter dash record, recording a 22.07 at the Wes Kittley H.S. Invitational. At the 60th Annual Jesuit-Sheaner Relays, Beucler broke the Jesuit Dallas outdoor records in the 100m and 200m dash, breaking the 200m mark of 21.16, previously held by Jesuit Dallas Hall of Famer Jonathan Howard '95, with a 20.78 in prelims. In the 100m dash, Beucler toppled the previous mark of 10.46, held by 2022 UIL 6A state qualifier Hunter Krepp '22, with a 10.25 in finals.
In addition to his performance in the 200m, Beucler finished fifth in the 100m dash, following a 10.45 in prelims with a 10.53 in finals. Jesuit's 4x400 relay team of sophomore
Chase Brown, freshman
Will Rannabargar, sophomore
Hudson Wall and senior
Eli Prieur finished 13th in prelims with a 3:24.28.
Beucler will join the state's top track and field athletes at the 2025 UIL 6A Track & Field State Championship on Saturday, May 3 in Austin, Texas. The 6A running events are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. on Saturday at the Mike A. Myers Track & Soccer Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin.
