IRVING, Texas - The Jesuit Dallas offense took advantage of numerous short fields and dominated Irving, 52-13, on Homecoming at Joy and Ralph Ellis Stadium on Thursday night in the District 7-6A opener for both squads.
Quarterbacks
Beck Berry and
J.P. Livingstone had identical nights of 4-for-5 passing with a touchdown while combining for 148 yards.
Cade Kirby hauled in four receptions for 111 yards with both touchdown receptions. His scores came on plays of 54 and 11 yards. The Rangers were equally balanced with a rushing attack that finished with 182 yards on 33 carries for a 5.5 yards per rush average.
Max Smith had two rushing TDs and
Ty Daboub and
Judson Harris added one each.
The defense was equally suffocating as it forced two fumbles and an interception while holding Irving to 264 yards of total offense and 133 on the ground.
Special teams played a big part for Jesuit as well.
Corson Lindley returned the opening kickoff to the Tigers' 21 to setup a quick score. On the next Irving possession, the Rangers deflected Jose Garcia's punt to give another short field that led to a score and then
Jackson Gair blocked a punt and returned it 17 yards to put Jesuit ahead 21-0.
Jesuit (1-3, 1-0) scored 28 points in the first quarter and led 38-0 at halftime. The Rangers only ran three plays in their own territory in the first half.
It was Jesuit's highest point total in any half against the Tigers in 10 all-time meetings and extended their win streak in the series to nine.
The Rangers have won eight of their last nine district openers.
Jesuit will play its next two contests at home, beginning Friday, Oct. 3 against J.J. Pearce (1-2, 0-1). Kickoff with the Mustangs is at 7 p.m. at Ranger Stadium.
