Jesuit Wrestling Finishes Fourth at Districts, Qualifies Eight For Regionals

Kingston Stephens remained undefeated as he won the 113 pound class

DALLAS - The Jesuit Dallas wrestling team finished in fourth place at the District 5-6A Championships and had eight Rangers advance to the regional championships at Lake Highlands High School on Saturday.

The Rangers scored 140 points based on one champion, two runner ups, three third place, two fourth place, one sixth place, two seventh place and a consolation champion.

The eight Jesuit wrestlers who will compete in the Region 2-6A championships in Allen next Friday and Saturday are Adam Jackson (106), Kingston Stephens (113), Dash Llana (120), Alex Shomin (132), Thomas Czuppon (138), Trevor Leap (165), Mike McCoy(175) and Parker Sherman (285). 

On Saturday, Stephens won the 113-pound class with a bye and a pair of fall victories, including the title match in 40 seconds over Fabien Alvardo of J.J. Pearce. The win was his third district championship as he remained undefeated at 30-0 in non-forfeits this season.

Shomin was the other Ranger to reach the finals, winning two early rounds where he fell to Tyson Crowsey of Rockwall Heath, 7-0. Llana went 2-1 and won the third place match in the 120-pound class. 

In the 165-pound bracket, Leap went 1-1 before winning his third-place match with a second period fall over Jonaz Gonzalez of Lake Highlands.

Sherman won bronze in the 285 division with a first round pin, a semifinal loss and a third place match 11-7 decision over Chaska Martin of Mesquite Horn.
