CYPRESS, Texas - Jesuit Dallas senior Kingston Stephens completed his remarkable 2025-26 season as the UIL Class 6A State Runner-Up after falling in the championship match of the 113-pound weight class at the Berry Center on Saturday.

Stephens reached the finals after three victories in the 16-man double elimination bracket.

He opened the event on Friday morning when he pinned Kobe Dutcher of Katy Mayde Creek midway through the second period. His second match with Garrett Runhaar of Austin Vandergriff saw two opponents not willing to give up an inch. Both wrestlers each an escape point in the second and third periods, forcing the match into overtime. In the second overtime, Stephen earned the 2-1 victory with an escape with 21 seconds remaining.

In the semifinals against Ayden Galarza of El Paso Eastwood, Stephens fell behind 7-0 after the first period and avoided a near fall. He regrouped in the second period with an escape and two takedowns to pull to within 8-7. In the final two minutes Stephens used a takedown midway through the frame to take his first lead and eventually the match, 11-10, as he posted a huge smile while holding Galarza down as time expired.

In the finals against Dylan Ota of Southlake Carroll, the 2-time state champion and the opponent who handed Stephens his last defeat in last year's state semifinals. Ota jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a first period takedown and extended it to 8-0 in the second with another takedown and a nearfall. The match went the distance with Ota claiming an 11-1 major decision and the title. Ota was also named the Most Outstanding Wrestler for the Class 6A boys.

Stephens ended his magical season with a 43-1 record, along with regional and district titles.
