SAN ANTONIO - The Jesuit finished in sixth place at the SCTP State Championship at the National Shooting Complex last weekend. The Rangers finished with a 1354 combined score in the events of Skeet, Trap and Sporting Clays, just 29 targets out of first place.
Junior Paul Thompson led the way, claiming the state championship in both the Sport Skeet and Super Sport events.
Sport Skeet
Paul Thompson set the standard on the 1st day of competition. Shooting a perfect score in Sport Skeet. His perfect score held up throughout the rest of the competition and he was the only perfect score. With the result, he claimed the 2026 SCTP Texas State Sport Skeet Championship.

Gavin Dourty 13th place with a score of 46
Bunker Hill 25th place with a score of 42
Luke Goodman 26th place with a score of 42 also.
Skeet Doubles was next up. We did not win any medals in Skeet Doubles but it is not an event that we dedicate a lot of time to either. We still had some very impressive scores in Skeet Doubles.

Varsity Trap
Our Varsity trap team finished in a two way tie for 5th place and we ended up finishing 6th of the tie breaker. Our total team score was 458 only 8 targets out of 1st place! That is just how competitive trap is.
Again leading the way for Jesuit was Paul Thompson who shot his personal best in trap only missing 1 target. Paul ended up finishing 3rd place in the State Championship because there were two perfect scores of 100 turned in and 1st and 2nd was decided in a shoot off.
Other really impressive trap scores were:
Gavin Dourty 94
Ryan Fitzgerald 91
Judge Platt 87
Luke Goodman 87
Skeet
Our JV skeet team finished in 6th place overall with a score of 403 out of 500, 75 targets out of 1st place
Joe Thompson led our JV team with a great score of 92. Nathan Williams posted a really good score of 82, followed by Liam McCulloch with a 78, Owen Woodlief at 76 and Tate Armentrout with a 75.
Varsity Skeet
WOW! This group showed up! We ended up in 3rd place in Varsity Skeet with a score of 478 out of 500. We were only 10 targets out of 1st place!
This was our best skeet performance ever!
Our Sr. leader Luke Goodman shot a near perfect round. Luke missed 1 target in his first 25 and then shot 3 perfect rounds for a score of 99 out of 100. The kicker to this was that there were 5 other 99's shot by other athletes so Luke had to go to a shoot off to decide who won 3rd place. In the end Luke ended up getting beat in the shoot off. But what a way to end your career on the Jesuit shooting team. Great job Luke!
We had several Varsity members also shoot perfect rounds of 25. Judge Platt, Gavin Dourty shot his 1st two rounds for 50 strait. Bunker Hill also shot a perfect 25 as did Ryan Fitzgerald.
