GARLAND, Texas — The Jesuit Dallas football team showed glimpses of a high-powered offense but was unable to contain Sachse's attack in dropping its season opener, 52-24 at Homer B. Johnson Stadium on Friday.
Jesuit finished with 346 yards of offense and 23 first downs. The Rangers had five interceptions and were unable to get the Mustangs on the ground near the line of scrimmage.
JP Livingstone threw for 210 yards on 15-of-27 with a touchdown on the game's opening drive - a 25-yard toss in the back of the end zone where Joseph Konings outjumped his defender and got a foot down in fair territory for a 7-0 lead. The play came after a 52-yard pass to Konings on the second play of the contest. Konings had a career-high 122 receiving yards on seven catches.
The teams went back and forth over the next few drives with Sachse taking a lead before Jesuit tied it at 14 on a 20-yard Ty Daboub run.
From there, Sachse scored three times in the second quarter to claim a 35-14 lead going into the half.
Defensively, linebacker Simon McGoldrick led the Rangers with 11 tackles and a tackle for loss.
Kelby Bishop was perfect from his place kicking role, making a 35-yard field goal and all three point after touchdown attempts.
Sachse ended the night with 472 yards, including 274 on the ground.
Jesuit will now play its next two games at home, beginning Friday, Sept. 4 against Forney. Kickoff at Ranger Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
