Kyle Muller struck out nine batters and the No. 6-ranked Rangers used a two-run second inning to open the 2016 season with a 3-1 win over Klein on Thursday afternoon at the College Station Invitational. The Rangers would close the day with a 3-0 loss to the hosting Cougars of College Station.
Muller hurled a complete game three-hitter for his first win of the season, only walking a single hitter while forcing six groundouts. Senior

Mark Ready also drove in runs for Jesuit Dallas (1-0). Ready launched a double for the Blue and Gold, Bonner laced a triple for his lone hit, and junior J.T. Mix recorded a single in the leadoff spot for his first hit of the season.

Jake Ryan forced a leadoff walk to begin the bottom of the second inning. Stealing second, Ryan scored on a RBI double to left by Ready, crossing home plate for the team's first run of the new year. Kengott struck next with a single to left, scoring Ready for the squad's final run of the inning.

Pete Hamrick forced a walk to put a runner aboard. With senior
Thomas Jordan pinch running, Bonner cracked a triple to center field, scoring Jordan and spotting the Rangers a 3-1 lead. Muller worked his way out of a jam in the sixth, striking out the potential tying run with a runner in scoring position.
Kengott fired a momentum-saving throw to Ready, cutting down Klein's leadoff batter in the seventh after the runner attempted to stretch a hit into a double, and Muller forced a pair of groundouts after allowing a runner aboard to snuff out a rally attempt by the Bearkats.
Against College Station, the Rangers were held to a single hit, recorded by Bonner, while the Cougars utilized a three-run third to pick up the win over the Blue and Gold. Trailing in the seventh, Bonner walked to lead off the inning, but pinch runner

The Rangers will compete in the second day of the three-day tournament on Friday, starting the day with a 10 a.m. bout against Huntsville before battling Bryan High School at 4 p.m.
