The No. 6 Jesuit Dallas baseball squad closed out its opening week with a 4-1-1 record, tying Kempner, 2-2, in a 10-inning affair before closing out the tournament with a 7-3 triumph over Rudder at the College Station Tournament.
Senior
Kyle Muller went 4-for-5 against Kempner, while J.T. Mix,
Bryce Bonner,
Jake Ryan and
Will Guzman racked up two hits each against hosting Rudder. Guzman drove in a pair of runs in the nightcap, while
Wyatt Hasson scored the victory on the mound with 4.2 innings of work, only allowing two runs while striking out three. Senior
Connor Lynch earned the save, taking the mound with the bases loaded in the seventh before retiring the side and sending the Rangers to their fourth win of the year.
Kempner took a 2-0 lead heading into the fifth, but the Rangers began to rally. A double through the left side by
Alex Lengyel provided a spark for the squad, who scored their first run of the game on a single by Mix that plated Lengyel. Junior
Mark Ready singled in the seventh with the bases loaded, scoring Mix to tie the game. Neither team would score after Jesuit's game-tying run, as the game entered extra frames and ended in a tie.
Against Rudder, the Rangers scored three runs on three hits in the second, opened with a single up the middle by Ryan. Another single by
Jared Bond scored pinch runner Lengyl before a hit batsman and passed ball gave the squad a 3-0 lead. Muller scored on an error in the third, and a Guzman single in the fifth scored senior
Bryce Bonner to give Jesuit a 5-2 lead. The Rangers closed out their scoring with two runs in the seventh, first via a RBI groundout by Guzman before a wild pitch allowed Lengyl to score his second run of the game.
Jesuit Dallas will next host the 2016 Jesuit Dallas Classic, which is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. on Thursday, Mar. 3 against Plano West.
