Junior Heath Van Kirk secured his second victory of the year with nine strikeouts, leading the Rangers past Belton, 2-0, in an eventual Saturday split to close the 2016 Highland Park Classic at Prosper High School.  Jesuit Dallas would drop the final game of the tournament, 7-3, to Sachse in the nightcap.
Van Kirk did not allow a walk or run in his impressive outing on the mound, limiting Belton to only four hits en route to the win.  Junior
Jared Bond recorded both RBI against Belton, forcing a bases loaded walk in the third before a single in the fifth.  Seniors
Pete Hamrick and
Bryce Bonner added two hits each against the Eagles, while fellow fourth year
Kyle Muller and junior
Alex Lengyel scored the squad's two runs.
After two scoreless innings, Sachse took a one-run lead in the third before a six-run fourth to earn a 7-0 advantage.  The Rangers broke through in the seventh inning, first on a RBI single by junior
Will Guzman before juniors
Jake Ryan and
Jacob Palisch crossed the plate on Sachse errors.  Sachse ended the Rangers' rally with two runners aboard in the seventh.
Jesuit Dallas will next begin University Interscholastic League (UIL) District 9-6A play on Thursday, Mar. 17 against Sunset before opening the home district campaign on Mar. 18 at 7:30 p.m. against the Bison.
