Explosive Plays Charge No. 18 Rangers Against MacArthur

A nine-strikeout outing by junior Jacob Palisch and an electric, inside-the-park home run by senior Matt Horvath punctuated a 3-0, University Interscholastic League (UIL) District 9-6A win for the Jesuit Rangers over the Irving MacArthur Cardinals on Friday evening at Wright Field.

Horvath's first home run of the season, a two-run inside-the-park blast, came on a deep charge to left center field in the sixth inning.  Taking a single bounce to the warning track, the speedy senior and recent Spring Hill College commit scored standing up to send the Ranger faithful into a frenzy with two important insurance runs heading into the final inning.  The senior finished the evening 2-for-3 from the plate, leading the team in the hit column.

Palisch secured his sixth victory on the year with a two-hitter, pitching a complete game to help the Rangers (23-5-2, 11-1 UIL) pick up a two-game lead on the division lead after second-place Nimitz fell to W.T. White on Friday evening.  Palisch has allowed only three hits in his last three starts, posting his fifth performance of the year of eight strikeouts or more, increasing his strikeout total on the year to 52 while lowering his earned run average to .077 while winning his sixth consecutive start.

Junior JT Mix singled up the middle in the bottom of the third to score senior Connor Lynch, who placed himself into scoring position with a triple earlier in the inning.  Senior Pete Hamrick and junior Mark Ready also tacked on hits.  The Rangers additionally impressed on the defensive end, including a notable moment from senior Kyle Muller, who threw out a runner at first from shallow center field in the top of the sixth.

Jesuit Dallas will next host R.L. Turner at Wright Field on Tuesday, Apr. 26 with a chance to clinch the UIL District 9-6A championship.  In addition, the Jesuit Dallas baseball program will honor the 11 seniors participating in their final regular season home game.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
