First-inning home runs by seniors
Jared Bond and
Kyle Muller punctuated a memorable senior night for No. 14 Jesuit Dallas, who used a 13-run first inning to defeat University Interscholastic League (UIL) District 9-6A foe R.L. Turner, 19-0, on Wednesday evening at Postell Stadium.
The Rangers (24-5-2, 12-1-0) clinched the UIL 9-6A crown with their win on Wednesday, continuing the program's domination over recent years. With Wednesday's clincher, the Jesuit Dallas program earned its seventh consecutive UIL District crown, additionally handing the Jesuit Dallas athletic department its eighth UIL District Championship of the 2015-16 academic year.
Bond's grand slam in the first inning was the exclamation mark on an impeccable opening frame for the Blue and Gold. The Rangers scored 13 runs in the first on seven hits and were aided by three R.L. Turner errors, and every member of the Ranger lineup recorded at least one hit and one run scored.Â
Alongside Bond's moonshot to right, Muller moved his home run total on the year to 14 with a three-run rocket to left center. Bond finished the game 2-for-4, while Muller went 2-of-3 from the plate, scoring in three of his four at bats.
Fourth year
Matt Horvath was immensely efficient from the leadoff position, going 4-for-4 and crossing the plate twice. Senior
Bryce Bonner closed out the evening by going 2-for-2 with three RBI, while fourth year
Thomas Jordan batted 2-for-3, driving in two runs. Starting senior pitcher
Pete Hamrick and junior Heath VanKirk combined for a two-hitter, with Hamrick striking out six batters.
Horvath led off the game with a single to right before Bonner drove in the first run of the game on a sacrifice fly to left field. Back-to-back singles by senior
Connor Lynch and Jordan scored junior pinch runner
JT Mix and senior
Jared Kengott, before a two-run single to right by Horvath brought to Jesuit Dallas lead to six runs. Muller's home run increased the lead to 9-0 before Hamrick, Bonner and Kengott loaded the bases to set the stage for Bond's laser to right.Â
The fans at Wright Field were treated to a great moment in the second inning, when senior
Cameron Dobbs entered the game for his first action of the season as a pinch runner. Six straight singles by the Rangers offense resulted in three more runs, the second to last of which, a single through the left side by Bonner, scored Dobbs.
In total, the Rangers would score five runs on seven hits in the second, adding a run on a RBI single from Bonner in the third for their 19
th run. Hamrick no-hit the Lions through two innings, allowing the first R.L. Turner hit of the game in the top of the third, and Van Kirk closed out the game only allowing one hit in the fourth, finishing the game with a 12-pitch fourth.
Jesuit Dallas, assured of its place in the UIL 6A State Championship Tournament, will close the regular season against R.L. Turner in Carrollton, Texas on Friday, Apr. 29 at 7:30 p.m.
