Jesuit Dominates Second Half to Defeat McKinney Boyd

Behind four double-digit scorers and a resounding second-half effort, Jesuit Dallas rebounded from Tuesday's setback to Plano West with an impressive, 73-40 win over McKinney Boyd on Friday at Walsh Gym. The Rangers out-scored the Broncos, 44-14 in the second half to secure the dominating win while finishing the first circuit of district play with a 6-1 record, entering the homestretch of district play in a tie with Allen for first place.

Senior Anthony Hollerich led the charge with 19 points, shooting 6-of-12 while going 5-for-5 from the free-throw line. Abmas and Marble scored 12 points apiece while sophomore Gavin Perryman excelled in his return to the lineup, scoring 11 points while recording a team-high nine assists. Junior Eli Steger added six rebounds while seniors Connor Wilson and John Phillips each hit three-pointers to contribute to the team's 12-of-32 clip. The Rangers (21-4, 6-1) held the Boyd three-point shooters in check as the Broncos only hit one three-pointer despite 14 attempts.

Jesuit leapt out to an 8-2 lead during a game-opening run punctuated by a traditional three-point play from Hollerich. Boyd crawled back into the contest as the Rangers were unable to pull away early to head into the second quarter leading by three. The two teams played to an even, 14-14 stalemate in the second quarter as Boyd's Sean Radley battled in the paint for six points, including a tip-in at the buzzer to cap a half-ending, 7-2 run for the Broncos.

The Rangers dominated the third quarter, hitting five three-pointers and shooting 7-of-13 from the field while holding the Broncos to a 1-of-8 clip and two turnovers. A game-changing 38-3 run put the result out of question as Jesuit held Boyd to only three made field goals in the entire second half. With 5:28 remaining in the fourth, Perryman found Marble for a thunderous, alley-oop dunk which sent the packed Walsh Gym crowd into a frenzy as Jesuit continued its game-changing run.

After completing the first circuit of district play with a 6-1 record, Jesuit will return to action on Tuesday against Prosper. The Rangers opened the district season with a 58-42 victory over the Eagles on Dec. 21, a contest which saw Hollerich score a team-leading 16 points while a stout Jesuit defense held Prosper to a 32.6 field goal percentage. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Prosper, Texas before the Rangers return to Walsh Gym for a critical district showdown against Allen on Friday.
