The Jesuit swimming and diving team moved to 4-0 on the year with a resounding performance against Flower Mound and J.J. Pearce on Oct. 8. The Rangers dominated Pearce, 194-100 while upending the Jaguars, 163-132 to remain unbeaten in dual meets this season against a pair of regional qualifying hopefuls.
Juniors William McKinney and Ryan Peckham provided a surge in the 500 free, taking first and second in the event with respective times of 5:00.03 and 5:07.99. Sophomore James Savarese and senior Ivan Lopez added another 1-2 finish in the 100 back as Savarese clinched the win with a 57.38, followed by a 59.15 from Lopez.
Early in the meet, Jesuit set the tone with a second and third place finish in the 200 medley relay to secure critical points. The team of Savarese, McKinney, Lopez and sophomore Jackson Summers clocked a 1:44.19 total relay time, followed by a 1:49.75 from the team of senior Ryan Brown, Kevin Grant, junior Alexander Chong and freshman Leonardo Pelaez.
The first two individual events saw the Rangers continue to gain ground on the Jaguars and Mustangs as Savarese, freshman Palmer Bowman and Grant earned a 2-3-4 finish in the 200 free, followed by a 2-3-4 finish by McKinney, Brown and Pelaez in the 200 I.M. to continue Jesuit's early surge. Sophomore Alexander Hung, Lopez and Bowman added a 2-3-4 finish in the 100 fly to secure the team's third scoring run of the meet.
Tuesday's meet saw a handful of new top times by the Ranger lineup. McKinney's 2:01.73 in the 200 I.M. and 5:00.03 in the 500 free, Hung's 56.87 in the 100 fly and a 1:50.45 in the 200 free by Savarese all stand as new season highs heading into Jesuit's next tri-meet on Oct. 22.
In the final event of the meet, Jesuit finished second and third in the 400 free relay. A 3:25.92 relay time by the team McKinney, Savarese, Peckham and Summers was followed by a 3:31.54 by Hung, Grant, Bowman and Lopez as Jesuit put the finishing touches on the dominating performance.
Jesuit will return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 22 as the Rangers will compete in a tri-meet against Allen and Prosper. First swim is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Don Rodenbaugh Natatorium.
