Jesuit Dominates Highland Park, Moves to 7-0 in Dual Meets

Another resounding performance by the Jesuit Dallas swimming and diving team kept the squad's unbeaten start to the year intact as Jesuit moved to 7-0 on the year with a 129-56 win over Highland Park on Nov. 5 at the Highland Park Natatorium. The Rangers won 11 events en route to the big win as Jesuit scored over the 100-point mark for the sixth consecutive meet.
 
Jesuit started off the meet with a 1:45.91 in the 200 medley relay, out-touching Highland Park by 0.01 seconds to open the scoring. The Rangers' relay team of seniors Ryan Brown, Kevin Grant, Ivan Lopez and junior Alexander Hung closed in on a Highland Park squad that held a lead after the first 100 yards as a 24.43 by Lopez and 23.81 by Hung allowed the Rangers the window to edge the Scots.
 
The Rangers scored their biggest point swing of the meet in the 500 free. Jesuit secured a 1-2-3 finish in the event, sparked by a 5:11.49 by junior Ryan Peckham. Freshman Palmer Bowman finished second with a 5:15.33, followed by a 5:24.71 from classmate Leonardo Pelaez. Jesuit's domination in the event put 13 points in the scoring column for the Rangers for a key cushion against Highland Park.
 
Junior Jack Young set a new season best in the one-meter dive with a score of 216.40. The mark bests his previous season-best score of 204.30, recorded on Sept. 17 against Plano East. Sophomore Blake Butz added a 73.50 to finish in third place.
 
The individual success started with sophomore James Savarese, who captured the 200 free with a time of 1:51.57. Sophomore Jackson Summers finished second with a time of 1:53.29, securing the first of four 1-2 finishes for the Blue and Gold. Junior Will McKinney won the 200 I.M. by nine seconds, hitting the wall in 2:00.30 while being followed by a 2:09.48 by Peckham.
 
The duo of Lopez and Bowman finished first and second in the 100 fly as Lopez swam a 57.83 for the win, followed by a 59.99 from Bowman. Summers swam a 50.97 to win the 100 free as a 24.35 in the 50 free Butz sparked a 2-3-4 finish alongside sophomore Alexander Hung and junior Alexander Chong. Savarese captured a win in the 100 back with a 57.68, and McKinney additionally earned a win in the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.60.
 
Jesuit capped the meet with a dominant 1-2 finish in the 400 free relay. Summers, Peckham, Savarese and McKinney bested the field by seven seconds with a total relay time of 3:31.83. Bowman, Pelaez, Grant and Lopez combined for a 3:38.19 to place second while defeating Highland Park's top relay team by six seconds. In the 200 free relay, Hung, Savarese, McKinney and Summers combined for a victorious 1:34.76, besting Highland Park by two seconds. Brown, Peckham, Chong and Butz finished third with a time of 1:39.93 to add additional key points to the total.
 
The Rangers will next compete at the North Zone TISCA meet on Nov. 15-16 at LISD Westside in Lewisville. The two-day meet will serve as a benchmark for the team as the Rangers begin the home stretch of the 2019-20 campaign, which will culminate on Jan. 24 at the District 8-6A Championships. Jesuit has three more dual meets on the schedule, first on Nov. 20 against Greenhill before the dual meet scheduled concludes on Jan. 9 against Frisco Wakeland and Frisco Independence.
