Rangers Sweep Team Titles at 2020 Jesuit Dallas Invitational

The Ranger golf varsity and junior varsity teams swept the 2020 Jesuit Dallas Invitational on Monday, closing a busy week which also saw the varsity team compete among the best golf programs in Texas at the annual State Preview Tournament, which took place in Georgetown, Texas at the Legacy Hills Golf Course.
 
Jesuit won the varsity division by nine strokes over All Saints Episcopal as sophomore Sean Mello led the charge with a 77, placing third. Junior James Farmer recorded an 81 to place ninth, followed by an 83 from sophomore Michael Lohner that closed the tournament tied for 15th place. Senior Jack Wright finished 20th with an 85 as junior Max Reimer finished Jesuit's varsity lineup with an 86.
 
Freshman Andrew Petruzzelli was named the junior varsity medalist with a one-over 73 as the Rangers won the JV division by 18 strokes. AJ Adams (79), Tate Williams *81), Hayden Montpas (83) and Jack Sweda (86) all recorded top-15 finishes for Jesuit.
 
Freshman Tyler Lee was Jesuit's top finisher at the state preview, shooting an eight-over 152 over the two-day tournament to finish tied for 19th place. Lee opened the tournament with a two-over 74 before shooting a 78 in the second round. Sophomore Oliver Naumann, junior Gordon Schmerbeck and freshman Ben DeLaRosa each recorded 159 total strokes during the tournament to finish inside the top 50 as freshman Matthew Foster posted a 160 to round out the Jesuit lineup.
 
The Rangers were the second-highest finisher from UIL District 9-6A in the event with a 627 total team score, placing 12th in the stacked field. Jesuit tied McKinney Boyd with identical day one team scores of 314, but the Broncos were able to edge the Rangers by three strokes on the second day.
 
Jesuit will continue the 2020 season at the UIL District 9-6A Championship Preview on Monday, Mar. 2. Jesuit will travel to Prosper and play on the Gentle Creek Golf Course prior to the two-day district championship tournament on Mar. 23-24.
