GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - The Jesuit Dallas golf team got some clutch play in the final five holes to finished in third place at the University Interscholastic League Region 1-6A Championship at Tangle Ridge Golf Club on Tuesday. The top three finish qualifies the Rangers for the UIL 6A State Championship tournament in two weeks.
Senior
Spencer Carter tied for ninth place with a 72-73=145 total. He finished with five birdies on Tuesday and eight in the tournament. Junior
Jonah Fahrenbruch tied for 21st with a 71-78=149.
Freshman
Jack Brown was clutch in his first regional tourney, following an opening round 77 with a 74 to finish tied for 29th at 151. He made three birdies in the final round and played the final six holes at 2-under-par.
Sophomore
George Weeldreyer and senior
Alex Murray tied for 36th at 153.
The Rangers were struggling to score on the back nine when they made four huge birdies to keep from falling closer to fourth place Coppell. Carter and Brown birdied 14 and 15 at nearly the same time and then Weeldreyer and Brown made birdies on 18 to keep the Blue and Gold in the top three.
The Jesuit second team that had reached the regional with its district runner-up finish, ended the regional in sixth place at 298-302=600. Senior
Andrew Dominguez and sophomore Dezter Simmerman led the way with top-15 finishes. Dominguez tied for 12th at 71-75=146 and Zimmerman was a shot back at 76-71=147 in 14th.
Jesuit will be making its third-consecutive appearance at the state tournament. It will also be Carter's third time playing in the event. The 36-hole tournament will be held at White Bluff Resort's New Course in Lake Whitney, April 27-28.
