Jesuit Secures Third Place at Meintser After Second Shutout of Tournament

1/9/2021 6:45:00 PM

The Rangers picked up a 3-0 win over Bryan Adams to finish third at the 40th annual Jesuit-Meintser Dallas Invitational Tournament as three separate goal scorers helped propel the team during a convincing performance. The victory is Jesuit's second shutout of the season and gives the Rangers a 3-1-0 record heading into the final two non-district games.

Seniors Alec Gomez, Spencer Gilker and junior Kyle Visintainer scored goals for the team, as Gilker pushed his team-leading goal total to four while Gomez and Visintainer both notched their first goals of the season. Sophomore Cole Hines picked up his second shutout win of the season, making two saves in goal for the Rangers. Jesuit's offensive contingent powered the pace of the game, launching 19 shots, five of which were on target.

Jesuit's first goal of the game came after some strong offensive pressure from the team. Senior Jason Davis launched a shot from 10 yards out that was blocked towards the middle of the field. The rebound found Gilker, who fired a pass to Visintainer just outside the six-yard box, who launched it into the net for the game-opening score with 13:16 left in the first.

With less than 20 seconds remaining in the first half, Jesuit earned a corner kick opportunity that was taken by Arnold Perez-Valenzuela. The corner kick was a lofted ball towards the far post, and Gomez was able to head it into the back of the net to give Jesuit a two-goal lead at halftime.

Jesuit's defense held firm in the opening moments of the second half, opening the door for the third goal of the contest. With 22:34 left in the second, another corner kick was sent in, this time by senior Benton Bacile. Davis put a header towards the net that hit the crossbar and dropped in front of the goal crease, but behind the Bryan Adams keeper. Gilker raced in and punched the ball into the net for Jesuit's third and final goal of the game.

Jesuit will return to action next Friday, when the Blue and Gold travel to Addison, Texas to take on Trinity Christian Academy. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. The Rangers return to Postell Stadium on Jan. 19, when the Blue and Gold battle Sachse.
