Jesuit Dallas Notes

Week Eleven Recap: Jesuit Dallas scored 21 first quarter points and secured their first outright district championship since 2016 with a 40-6 win over Richardson on Friday at Eagle-Mustang Stadium. Senior Gage Roy connected with classmate Hunter Krepp for a 42-yard pass on the Rangers' first offensive play from scrimmage, finishing the game completing 10-of-13 passes for 177 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Junior Reed Pfaffenberger recorded a 46-yard touchdown reception to close the first quarter while junior Jake Musso scored a pair of rushing touchdowns. Senior Robert Fitzgerald added an 11-yard score for his 14th rushing touchdown of the season. The Ranger special teams unit made several key plays, including a 20-yard blocked punt return for touchdown by senior Kyle Nolan. Fitzgerald added a 34-yard punt return late in the second quarter to set-up a touchdown to give the Rangers a 33-6 lead into the break. Senior David Long led the team with 12 tackles on the night, followed by seven stops fro Fitzgerald and six tackles by seniors Andrew Charlton, Charlie Freeman and junior Luke Buckner. Senior Lucas Hernandez racked up a solo and assisted tackle for loss, matching Long's team-leading total.

Players to Watch:
Gage Roy - Sr. - QB:  Over the last three games, Roy has racked up 734 yards and 10 touchdowns...finished the regular season with 2,454 yards, a 68.7 completion percentage and 26 touchdowns.

Hunter Krepp - Sr. - WR: Has caught a touchdown reception in 11 straight games dating back to the 2020 Bi-District playoff game against Arlington...closed out the regular season with 1,176 yards and 14 receiving touchdowns.

Jake Musso - Jr. - WR: Over the last five games, Musso has racked up 22 catches for 257 yards and a touchdown alongside two rushing touchdowns...averages 36.9 yards per game and 10.9 yards per reception.

Robert Fitzgerald - Sr. - RB/DB: Scored offensive touchdowns in nine of 10 games this season...matched his second-highest tackle total of the year with seven stops against Richardson...closed the year with 55 tackles and three interceptions.

David Long - Sr. - LB: Recorded the most tackles since 2018 with 15 stops against Nimitz on Oct. 14...closed out the regular season leading the team in tackles (73), tackles for loss (5.5) and sacks (4).

Grant Peters - Sr. - LB: Forced his fourth fumble of the year against Berkner, and currently has 28 tackles...has added four tackles for loss and a pair of sacks...recovered fumbles against Choctaw (Sept. 10) and Pearce (Sept. 24).

Bi-District Round By-The-Numbers: 

2 • The Jesuit Dallas defense has, on average, allowed only two points per game over the last three contests. During that stretch, which included shutout wins over Berkner and Irving, the Rangers outscored opponents, 121-6.

5 • The Rangers have only allowed a five fourth down conversions this season, one of which on a play that resulted in a turnover. By comparison, Jesuit Dallas has converted on 19-of-25 fouth down attempts this season.

7 • During their last five games, Jesuit Dallas has averaged 6.6 yards per play. The Rangers averaged 426.9 yards per game against district competition while allowing 197.6 yards per game against District 7-6A foes.

10 • Jesuit Dallas given up nearly 10 fewer penalty yards per game than opponents this year, as Ranger opponents have averaged 6.3 penalties for 52.6 yards this year.

12 • The Ranger defense has picked up 12 sacks during their eight-game winning streak, and have picked up 35 tackles for loss during that stretch. The Rangers have added 12 forced turnovers (five interceptions, seven fumble recoveries).

33 • Over the last five games, Jesuit Dallas has racked up 14 sacks for a total of 65 yards. The Rangers have recorded at least one sack in every game during their seven-game winning streak, and during the same span have picked up 27 total tackles for loss.

Scouting the Colts

Colts Fight Their Way Into the Playoffs: Arlington won its final two games of the regular season to clinch the final playoff seed in District 8-6A, securing a huge, 45-38 win over Lamar on Oct. 29 before clinching the playoffs with a 51-20 win over Bowie on Nov. 4. The win allowed Arlington to secure its 14th playoff berth in the last 15 seasons.

Rumbling into the Postseason: Senior Rodney Talton, Jr. entered the final week of the season ranked ninth in the area, and finished the season with 1,530 yards on 255 carries, saveraging six yards per carry. Talton scored 14 rushing touchdowns and added three touchdown receptions, catching 26 passes for 371 yards. In the Colts' final game of the season, Talton scored three touchdowns, carrying the ball 30 times for 228 yards. The senior added a touchdown in the penultimate game of the year against Lamar.

Continued Success: Arlington is headed to the playoffs for the sixth consecutive season, and are looking to advance past the opening round for the fourth straight year. The Colts secured regional semifinal berths in 2019 and 2017, and have secured a pair of regional final appearances in the 21st century, accomplishing the feat in 2002 and 2009.

On the Other Side of the Bracket: It will be a true quarterback battle in Denton on Friday as the Guyer Wildcats, ranked ninth in the final Associated Press Texas High School Top 25 poll, host the Flower Mound Jaguars. Guyer quarterback Jackson Arnold, a four-star quarterback with offers from 17 schools including Arkansas, Notre Dame, Ole Miss and TCU, finished the regular season with 2,347 yards and 19 touchdowns. Arnold is ranked the No. 13 quarterback in the state according to 247 Sports and the No. 36 overall prospect in Texas. Flower Mound quarterback Nick Evers, who is also a four-starrecruit, is ranked No. 10 among quarterbacks in the country and is the No. 24 overall prospect in Texas. Evers, who has racked up 2,199 yards and 18 touchdowns this year, committed to Florida on June 4. The Jaguars earned their way into the postseason with a 45-21 win over Coppell in a win-or-go-home regular season finale on Nov. 5. Guyer ended the season ranked third in the Dallas Morning News Area Rankings.

Up Next: The winner of Friday's football playoff game will take on either Denton Guyer or Flower Mound in the UIL Region I-6A Division II Area Round. Denton Guyer (9-1) finished the regular season ranked ninth in the Associated Press Texas Top 25 poll, while Flower Mound (5-5) earned its way into the postseason with a week 10 win over Coppell. Kickoff between the Wildcats and Jaguars is set for 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 12 at the C.H. Collins Athletic Complex in Denton, Texas.
