GAME PREVIEW: Jesuit Begins Playoff Run Against Arlington Martin

Game Preview

• Jesuit Dallas (visiting team) will enter tonight's contest on a four-game winning streak and as the No. 3 seed out of District 7-6A. The Rangers' defense excelled over the final four games of the season, holding MacArthur, Nimitz, Berkner and Irving under 45 points per game and a 32.9 collective shooting percentage. Senior Gavin Perryman finished the year third in the Metroplex and first among UIL student-athletes with 83 made three-pointers, while Jesuit's team defense closed out the season ranked sixth in the area, allowing only 48.8 points per game.

• Arlington Martin (home team) has won three consecutive games heading into tonight's contest, and is the No. 2 seed in District 8-6A. The Warriors only suffered one district loss to opponents other than currently unbeaten and state-ranked South Grand Prairie. Martin ended the year with the No. 24-ranked offense in the Metroplex, averaging 68.7 points per game.

• The Rangers and Warriors met earlier this season, a 63-48 win for Jesuit on Dec. 4 in Dallas, Texas. Perryman was the leading scorer for both teams, scoring a career-high 34 points on 12-of-21 shooting. Martin senior Josh Gondola was the Warriors' leading scorer with 14 points on the night, while junior JC Shirer and senior Derrick Talton scored 11 and 10 points, respectively. The Rangers pulled away from Martin in the third quarter, outscoring the Warriors, 16-9 out of halftime after taking a 31-26 lead into the halftime break.

• The winner of tonight's game will meet either McKinney (24-2) or Hebron (14-11) in the area round. The McKinney Lions, ranked eighth in the state according to the last TABCHoops.org poll, will take on the Hawks from Hebron H.S. tonight at 7 p.m. in Allen, Texas.

            A prolific shooter, Perryman leads Jesuit in scoring (20.1 ppg, 52.8 FG%, 45.6 3-PT%).

Arlington Martin:

            Leads the Warriors with 12.6 points per game, a 46.5 FG%, 5.3 rebounds and 3.4 steals per game.
