DALLAS - The Jesuit Dallas basketball team had six players named to the All-District 7-6A Team, including
Andrew Eakes who was selected as the Newcomer of the Year by the league's coaches.
Seniors
William Alexander,
Justin Fern and
Pierce Popelka, along with Eakes were first team selections, while seniors
Cooper Jensen and
Cade Kirby were both placed onto the second team.
Alexander started 31 games at point guard, leading the team with 90 assists for a 2.9 per game average. He also averaged 28 minutes per contest with 3.4 points and 2.8 rebounds per outing.
Fern was the team's second-leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 11.6 points and 3.8 boards per contest. He had 21 games where he scored in double figures, including a career-high 27 in the home win over JJ Pearce. He also was second in 3-pointers made with 47.
Popelka led the Rangers in scoring with 14.4 ppg and on the glass with 4.3 rpg, while making 71.5 percent of his shots. He had 29 games in double figures and posted a pair of double-doubles.
Eakes joined Popelka as the only players to start every game, finishing his first season on varsity with 5.3 ppg and 45 3-pointers.
Jensen was one of the team's outside threats as he led Jesuit with 54 triples while averaging 6.4 ppg. He made at least three in a game eight times and had at least one in 27 games. He scored a career-high 15 points in two contests, making five 3-pointers in each showing.
Kirby saw playing time in 27 games while starting 12-consecutive at the end of the season. He ended the year with 65 points and 58 rebounds.
Jesuit went 18-14 overall and finished in second place in District 7-6A with a 10-4 mark. The Rangers went 11-2 over their final 13 and advanced to the Area Round of the UIL 6A Division 2 State Playoffs.
