Jordan Lawlar launched a walk-off, two-run home run over the awning in left field to give Jesuit Dallas a 6-5 win over Frisco Liberty, capping an explosive Friday sweep at the 2021 Tournament of Champions. Senior
Drew Messick hit two long balls for the Rangers in the early game, helping the Rangers secure a 7-0 shutout win over Frisco Wakeland.
Â
Lawlar's two-run bomb scored senior
Connor Chavez and brought the Rangers back from a one-run deficit for their third win of the tournament. A wild back-and-forth affair, Jesuit enjoyed a three-run lead before Liberty struck back with five runs in the fourth. Chavez would finish the team 2-for-3 with three runs scored while Messick tacked on his fifth RBI of the day in the nightcap. Senior JJ Lune threw six strong innings, striking out five, while sophomore Luke Isett came into the game in relief, not allowing a run in the seventh and ultimately picking up his first varsity win after the walk-off.
Â
Messick cleared the fence in the fourth and fifth innings, hammering a ball to left center to lead off the fourth before a three-run, one-out blast in the fifth. Lawlar added two hits to the Jesuit effort against Wakeland, joining Messick and fellow senior
Nick Lazzara in the RBI column. Junior
Jake Storey threw a complete game two-hitter, striking out a career-high 11 batters and only walking one hitter.
