GAME PREVIEW: Jesuit Hosts MacArthur on Homecoming Friday

Jesuit Dallas:

• The Rangers clinched a playoff berth last week with a 49-13 victory over Nimitz.

• The Rangers have 28 or more points in seven of eight games this season and currently outscore opponents by 17 points per game.

• Jesuit's defense has excelled at home this season, holding opponents to 14.5 points per game and 17-of-52 (32 percent) on third downs.

• Jesuit is currently positioned for the No. 2 seed in the UIL District II-6A bracket.

MacArthur:

• The Cardinals lost to Highland Park, 53-0 last week, as the Scots shut out down the district's leading offense (38.6 points, 461.2 yards per game).

• Quarterback Glendon Casas Williams enters Friday's game as the district passing leader with 2,082 yards on the season.

• MacArthur is currently 3-3 in district play and are in a three-way tie for the final playoff berth in 7-6A.

Week 10 Players to Watch

17 • Charlie Schmidt • QB • Sr.

Schmidt's 392-yard performance against Berkner is the most passing yards for a Jesuit Dallas quarterback since Parker Towns, who threw for 433 yards against Longview in 2017. The standing UIL program record is 509 yards, registered by Bo Schneider against Plano West in 2013.

7 • Jake Musso • WR • Sr.

Recorded the team's highest single-game receiving output since 2011 with 284 yards on 13 receptions against Berkner. Musso needs 75 receiving yards tonight to hit the 1,000 mark...Musso has recorded three consecutive games with 100 receiving yards.

44 • Blake Miller • LB • Sr.

Improved his streak of games with eight or more tackles to four games with an eight-tackle performance against Nimitz...leads the team with 54 stops on the season.

47 • Adam Kelly • LB • Sr.

Returned a 45-yard interception for a touchdown against Nimitz, earning Dallas Morning News Defensive Player of the Week honorable mention honors and finishing the game with five tackles.

30 • Luke Buckner • LB • Sr.

Snagged his second interception of the season against Nimitz...enters the week ranked fourth on the team with 33 tackles, and ranks second on the team with 4.0 tackles for loss.

25 • Cameron Martin • RB • Sr.

Currently second on the team with 309 yards on the season...averaging 4.8 yards per carry and 38.6 yards per game...has only lost 15 yards rushing this season, with 95.4 percent of his net yardage gained.

90 • Noah McGough • K • So.

Recorded his second field goal of 40 yards or more with a 40-yard strike at the halftime buzzer against Berkner. McGough's career-long came on Sept. 9 against J.J. Pearce, and McGough is one of only five kickers to hit a field goal of 40 yards or longer since 2015.

Week 10 By the Numbers

3 • Three Rangers secured interceptions last week against Nimitz, as seniors Luke Buckner, Roark Holman and Adam Kelly recorded turnovers. Kelly became the first Ranger since Robert Fitzgerald '21 against Pearce (9/24/21) to run an interception back for a touchdown, scoring on a 45-yard return against Nimitz.

11 • Jesuit has won 11 straight contests against members of Irving ISD, dating back to the 2014 season. With a win tonight, Jesuit will complete a sweep of Irving ISD for the fourth consecutive year (2015, 2020, 2021). Last season, the Rangers out-scored the three members of Irving ISD (Irving, MacArthur, Nimitz), 127-14.

16 • The Ranger rushing attack has racked up 16 rushing touchdowns over the last three games. Jesuit secured seven rushing touchdowns against Irving (Sept. 23), added two against Highland Park (Sept. 30), three against Berkner and four against Nimitz.

18 •  Jesuit Dallas has pieced together an 18-0 record since 2020 when scoring first. This year, the Rangers are 5-0 when striking first in a ball game, and last year the Blue and Gold went 7-0 when scoring first.

33 • In the red zone, Jesuit Dallas has continued to excel this season. Last Friday, the Rangers scored in 5-of-6 trips in the red zone, scoring four rushing touchdowns and a passing touchdown. Jesuit is 33-of-40 in red zone efficiency this year.

36 • District opponents have been held to a 36 percent clip on third down conversions (26-of-73) against the Rangers. By comparison, Jesuit has converted 47 percent of third downs (36-of-76) in district play.

Scouting the Cardinals

Cardinals Drop Bout to Highland Park: MacArthur will aim to rebound from a 52-0 setback to Highland Park last week as the district's highest-scoring offense was blanked by the Scots. In the matchup, quarterback Glendon Casas Willis completed 58.3 percent of his passes but only recorded 54 total yards, and the Cardinals' rushing attach, which yields 143 yards per game, was held to 97 yards on the ground. MacArthur was additionally called for six penalties for 70 yards during the contest, and committed two turnovers.

Glendon the Great: MacArthur senior quarterback Glendon Casas Willis enters Friday's game leading District 7-6A in passing with 2,082 yards on the season. Averaging 260.3 passing yards per game, Willis has completed 20 touchdown passes this year to only two iterceptions. His favorite target is Jerbrandin Henderson, who enters Friday's bout with 11 touchdown catches on 52 receptions for 1,080 yards. In the run game, Darelle Smith averages eight yards a carry and has secured 11 rushing touchdowns on 110 carries.

On the Horizon: MacArthur will close the year with a matchup against Berkner at home on Nov. 4. The game will have major playoff ramifications, as the two teams are currently tied with J.J. Pearce for the final playoff berth in District 7-6A.

The Last Time at Ranger Stadium...

The Jesuit Dallas defense locked down on MacArthur, only yielding two first downs and 44 total yards of offense to the Cardinals en route to securing a 34-0 win on Oct. 8 at Ranger Stadium. The Rangers celebrated senior night in resounding fashion by securing their irst clean sheet of the season and fourth over the last two seasons.

MacArthur was held to 26 net rushing yards, 18 passing yards and were 0-for-9 on third down opportunities. Jesuit also dominated time of possession, holding the ball for 34:37 compared to 13:23 by the Cardinals. Senior David Long led the team with six tackles and a six-yard sack while classmate Robert Fitzgerald tacked on five stops. Junior Grant Peters picked up a big tackle for loss as senior Austin Graham secored one of his two tackles behind the line of scrimmage. Senior Evan Bare and junior Luke Buckner combined for a sack while senior Ryan Allred added a tackle for loss.

Offensively, senior Hunter Krepp kept his impressive touchdown scoring streak intact with five catches for 83 yards and a touchdown. Krepp has scored at least one touchdown in every game this season, and has 624 yards and seven touchdowns to his credit this season. Senior Gage Roy completed 18-of-26 passes for 220 yards and a touchdown, adding a rushing touchdown in the third quarter.

Junior Charlie Schmidt threw the second touchdown pass of his career to senior Joe Staubach in the fourth. Senior Cade Jordan finished the day perfect in field goal and extra point attempts, going 4-for-4 in extra points while sending 26-yard and 24-yard attempts through the uprights.
