Seniors Arnold Perez,
Jack Fisher and junior
Josh Roppolo gave Jesuit a 3-0 lead midway through the second half, providing enough of a cushion to lead the Rangers to a 3-1 victory and season sweep of the MacArthur Cardinals on Friday in Irving. The victory and points sets the stage for a massive showdown on Tuesday, as Jesuit will welcome Nimitz to Postell Stadium in a contest that will help determine the final playoff picture in District 7-6A.
Roppolo's seventh goal of the year came in the 38th minute, when junior
James McCrea sent a cross into the box that was sent home by the junior. Moments later, Perez ripped a shot to the left side of the goal past the Cardinals' goalkeeper for a 2-0 lead. McCrea would tack on his second assist of the game on a corner kick that Fisher sent into the back of the net for a 3-0 lead.
The Rangers kept up the pressure throughout the game, taking 17 shots, including 11 in the first half. Junior
Cole Hines secured four saves on the night as the Rangers were able to withstand a late push by the Cardinals that resulted in seven second-half shots.
Jesuit and Nimitz will met for the second time this season on Tuesday, as the Rangers will look to avenge a 3-1 loss on Feb. 7. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Postell Stadium.
