The Jesuit Dallas soccer season concluded on Tuesday, as Lewisville scored with 2:28 remaining in the second overtime period to defeat the Rangers, 1-0, in the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Region I-6A Area Round on Tuesday evening at Tommy Briggs Stadium. The Rangers finish out the 2022 season with a 10-8-4 record and see a thunderous postseason surge draw to a close.
Facing adverse conditions in the form of winds blowing above 20 miles per hour throughout the entirety of the contest, the Rangers withstood a bevy of attacks from the Lewisville offense. With the wind at their back in the second half, Lewisville took 15 shots at the Rangers as junior
Cole Hines racked up 11 saves on the night, including seven in the second half.
The Rangers created a great chance in the first overtime period as sophomore
Jason Ogbolu split through the Farmers' defense and found junior
Josh Roppolo with space at the top of the box for a shot that was blocked by a Lewisville defenseman. After the Farmers' go-ahead goal, the Rangers had a corner kick with 1:28 on the clock. Senior
Andrew Reutinger took the attempt, finding senior
Jack Fisher on the far side post. Fisher placed a stellar header towards the upper left corner of the goal, but the Farmers' goalkeeper was able to knock it out, and the ensuing shot by senior
Julian McDoniel went just wide of the cage.
Jesuit fought its way into the postseason by going 4-0-1 in its final five games of the regular season, including a 2-0 win over Richardson in a de-facto playoff play-in game. The Rangers earned their way into the area round by toppling District 8-6A Champion Arlington Martin in the bi-district round, securing a 4-1 advantage in penalties following a 1-1 tie in regulation.
