Ranger Wrestling Logs Strong Performance at The Nest Invitational

Nine members of the Jesuit Dallas wrestling team placed as the Rangers finished seventh at The Nest Invitational, held on Saturday at Azle High School. With seven top-five finishers, Jesuit heads into the homestretch of the regular season with momentum following a strong weekend.
 
Oliver Collins placed second in the 157-pound bracket, earning pin fall victories over Allen Harris (Azle), Luke Smith (McKinney Christian) and Jason Cortez (Benbrook). Nicholas Westerheide finished the weekend with a team-high four wins, finishing the run in third place at 138 pounds. The junior finished his strong run, which included two pool play wins and a quarterfinal pin over Joseph White (Azle) was capped by a second period pin of Noah Cardoza (Cooper).
 
Alex Lizardi scored a pin over Zakariya Ali (Emerson) 57 seconds into the third-place match of the 132-pound bracket to earn the bronze medal, finishing the tournament with three victories. An-Jie Kryger placed fourth in the 150-pound division after securing a pair of wins, Michael Geary added a fifth-place finish with three wins on the afternoon, Dolen Hedrick won his first three decisions en route to a fourth-place finish at 175 pounds and senior Jackson Chesney captured wins in his final three bouts to place ninth.
 
Kingston Stephens and Matt Dietsch each picked up a win, finishing fifth and seventh, respectively to wrap the Jesuit lineup.
 
Jesuit Dallas will return to action on Thursday, January 12 in a dual meet against Frisco Centennial, then will travel to The Colony on Saturday, Jan. 14 for the Cougar Classic. The Rangers will return to Walsh Gym for the Frank Halloran Ranger Classic, set for Jan. 20-21.
