Wrestling Hosts 2023 Frank Halloran Ranger Classic

Jesuit Dallas welcomed hundreds of wrestlers to Walsh Gym and the Terry Center over the weekend, hosting the annual Frank Halloran Ranger Classic on Friday and Saturday. The Rangers placed 17th overall at the annual showcase, which featured a highly competitive field spanning multiple Texas classifications alongside several out-of-state programs.

Dolen Hedrick was Jesuit's top finisher, placing third with a strong run that saw the junior win his final four matches. Hedrick earned a first period fall over Frisco's Dylan Nirmul before dropping into the consolation bracket. The junior responded with three consecutive wins to close out the tournament, beginning his run with a pin fall victory against Isaiah Pendleton (Cedar Park Vista Ridge) before forging a spot in the third-place match with a 11-3 major decision over Coppell's James Cameron. Hedrick closed out his run with a 17-6 major decision over Winnsboro's Derrick Coffman to capture the bronze medal.
 
Senior Jackson Chesney scored 10 points for the team with a pair of wins in the 285-pound bracket. Chesney secured pin fall victories over Jaxson Shamlin (First Baptist Academy) and Matthew Wollett (Flower Mound Marcus) during his tournament run. Additional victories were secured by Matt Dietsch, who earned a first period pin in the first consolation round of the 126-pound bracket, and Spencer Broussard, who won in the second round of the 126-pound consolation bracket.
 
In the junior varsity bracket, Jake Daboub captured a championship at 157 pounds, scoring a trio of wins en route to earning the top spot on the podium. Alex Shomin placed second in the 113-pound division, picking up two wins before falling in the title bout.
 
Alexander Menard placed third in the 126-pound division while James Johnson (126), Reed Radelat (132), Jorge Barrenechea (138), Cooper Seal (138), Nathan Salvia (10), Evans Senvalds (150), Trevor Leap (150), Luke Bloodworth (157), Noah Nicosia (175), Aidan Kehoe (175) and Parker Sherman (190) scored for Jesuit.
 
Jesuit will return to Walsh Gym for the 2022-23 home finale on Wednesday, Jan. 25 when the Blue and Gold will battle Bishop Lynch. Prior to the beginning of the match, Jesuit Dallas will recognize the members of the senior class, as Chesney, Dietsch, Michael Geary, Alex Lizardi, Alexander Menard and Nick Morris will be honored by the wrestling program. The first match on Wednesday is set for 6:30 p.m.
