Erwin Ordaz set the tone for the Blue and Gold as Jesuit advanced to the championshp semifinal of the 42nd Annual Jesuit-Meintser Soccer Invitational with a 2-0 win over Nolan Catholic on Thursday at Ranger Stadium. Jesuit will avance to take on McKinney at 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 6 in the first of two championship semifinals.
Fisher's goal came in the 13th minute, as the junior fired home a rebound off of a corner kick taken by Ordaz to give the Rangers the early advantage. Jesuit's second goal came in the 37th minute, when Ordaz triggered in a fast restart off of a free kick and slotting a ball into an empty net.
Jesuit Dallas out-shot Nolan Catholic, 11-1, and placed six shots on target during the contest. Senior
Cole Hines made a save during the first half, and split the clean sheet with senior
Christian Rodriguez, who played the second half for the Rangers. Sophomore
Noah McGough launched two shots on goal in his varsity debut as
George Horvat also placed a shot on target.
The Rangers will square off with a McKinney team that rebounded from a 1-0 halftime deficit to upend TCA-Addison, 3-1 on Friday. The winner of the 4 p.m. championship semifinal will battle either Plano or Skyline in the tournament championship on Saturday. Plano began its tournament run with an 8-0 win over Bishop Lynch, while Skyline edged Rowlett, 3-2, on Thursay.
